Have your technicians get into the habit of spinning the prop of every boat that comes into your shop.

You would be amazed at how many bent prop shafts are out there. You or your techs can see at a quick glance if the shaft is bent. You may even notice it wobbling while running the boat after a tune-up.

It only takes a few minutes to remove the prop and clamp on the dial indicator. When you call your customer to inform them that the prop shaft is bent, you can tell them accurately how far out the damage is .040"-.075" etc, and offer the repair.
